In many ways, the state of West Virginia is way ahead of the rest of the nation. When it comes to satellite television, however, the Mountain State is right on par with the rest of the country. There are really only two choices in satellite television, no matter what state you're in, including West Virginia.
Between DISH Network and DIRECTV, the satellite television market is pretty cornered. There are a few other companies that offer service, but most of those are just offering service from one of these two companies combined with their phone or internet service. However, this doesn't mean that West Virginians will have to pay an arm and a leg for satellite television.
Both DISH Network and DIRECTV offer extremely affordable packages when it comes to television programming. Both companies offer free installation and upgrades to high definition digital video recorders. Packages start as low as $20 per month and run as high as $80 per month, depending on the programming packages you add.
Either way, West Virginians have a tough choice to make between the two competitors. They're both dominating the market for satellite TV, but at the same time offer deals that are extremely affordable, even for high definition programming.

There are only a few benefits to cable over satellite. Mainly that is that you won't lose your signal in heavy weather. After that Directv and Dish have either similiar or superior programming at what is usually a lower price. Of course if you have the benefit of competition between providers in your area then you can get much better deals than the rest of us.
