VoIP, or voice over internet protocol, is the next wave of telephone technology. Through VoIP, an analog voice signal is converted to a digital signal, which can then be transmitted over the internet.

This technology is gaining ground all over the country, especially in states like Virginia. Residents of the state of Virginia have a couple places they can turn to if they want to take advantage of this VoIP phone service.

There are three main internet phone providers in the state, the best known of these is Vonage, however other lesser-known brands exist in Lingo and Phone Power. All three companies offer services similar in price range, however, be sure to read the fine print. Many advertised rates are low for the first three months and then increase after that.

No matter which company they choose, Virginians will be able to save a tremendous amount of money on their phone bill, by using the internet they already have.

VoIP, or Voice over Internet Protocol, is a way of sending your voice to someone else and visa versa. You need a microphone, speakers, and software for your computer, or a standalone piece of hardware that has a phone plug, and dial the person up. This also may require a service or membership with the company you get the software or hardware from.
