With the onslaught of ISPs offering high speed Internet connections plus the entry of big players who used to specialize in other services but have decided to branch out to Internet as well, the landscape is getting smaller for providers who focus solely on dialup Internet services alone.

In Texas, high speed Internet connection is provided by big names like AT&T, Time Warner, and Suddenlink. The entry of these companies have forced local telephone companies, who have started offering Internet as dial up subscriptions, to upgrade their systems to allow for high speed Internet. Among these companies are Brazos Telephone Cooperative, Inc. and Cameron Communications which both offer dial up AND DSL connections.

Others, like Coleman County Telephone Cooperative, Inc. (CCTC) of Sta. Ana, have been slow to upgrade. This local company, which existed since 1953 only offers "accelerated" dial up through one of its divisions, Web Access. It makes use of a subscription based service named Propel Accelerator which allows for advanced image compression.

Still, it's not broadband. Unless these local companies can upgrade, it won't take long until the bigwigs drive into town. At this day and age, it's no longer sufficient to justify dialup usage because you only use the Internet for email. Nowadays, many people perform huge attachments (usually images) to their emails and dialup just won't cut it.

Definitely!!! Broadband can be anywhere between 10 to 100 times quicker than dial up. Dial up is like the grandfather of Internet connectivity. Many advances have been made since it's inception. Broadband is also a permanent connection and much more efficient at downloading things. Broadband can also be about 10 times faster than dsl.
