Tennessee's cable television industry is continually expanding, which helps the state in maintaining and improving its visibility. People living in the state are always in touch with current events, entertainment news and other information that would help them lead a more enriched life.

Having cable TV has long stopped being a luxury it is now a way of life.

Cable television used to be only for the wealthy; simple folk had to make do with what the local channels are showing, which more often are out of date news and entertainment tidbits. With the influx of companies providing cable television service, subscribers now have the chance to get the latest information by watching television in the comforts of their own homes.

Cable television has also helped Tennessee citizens enjoy programs that embody the values of the South, at the same time be updated with what's happening around the nation and the world as a whole. This makes the world a smaller place, in terms of being connected with what's happening in various parts of the world. The major networks that make all of these possible are the Home and Garden Television (HGTV), Country Music Television (CMTV) and The Nashville Network (TNN).

A few decades ago, watching television was done just to while away the time; now it can be a source of enriching, and maybe even life-changing information. Now people living in Tennessee are part of a global village, thanks to the presence of cable television.

The benefits of cable over satellite is mainly the contract. With cable you are not forced to sign a 1 or two year contract to be able to watch tv. You will not have wires hanging all around your home with cable which can be annoying. Another thing is you can watch the same cable in many different rooms without having to rent additional cable boxes for other tvs.

For cable television, you need only the cable box to connect the coaxial cable from the wall to your television. With satellite television, you need the receiver as well as the dish. Cable television will generally continue to be viewable during inclement weather, while satellite television will often go out during storms. With satellite television, you may periodically need to replace or reset the dish, as it can be knocked from its position or damaged.

The primary advantage that digital cable offers over regular cable is the ability to record television shows and watch them at a later time. Another advantage is the freedom to see all current and upcoming shows (up to 48 hours forward or so) on all channels at will, as opposed to having to watch the guide channel on standard cable.
