Cable television is a must in almost every home in America. Whether keeping the whole family entertained with hundreds of channels featuring the latest movies, educational programming, sitcoms, sports and music, or worrying about the weather affecting TV viewing, digital cable is reliable. Cable television allows greater access to digital video recording, pay-per view and high-definition services.

Pennsylvania has approximately nine cable television companies to choose from: Adelphia, Armstrong Cable Services, Blue Ridge Communications, Cablevision, Comcast, Cox Communications, RCN Cable and Time Warner Cable. Four of these are in the nation's top 20 cable companies and are headquartered in Pennsylvania: Comcast, Service Electric, Armstrong and Pencor (Blue Ridge). Additionally, Pennsylvania's cable operators offer free cable service to virtually all primary and secondary schools in the state...while continuing to provide 100 percent funding and support for Pennsylvania Cable Network (PCN).

The Pennsylvania Cable Network is the leading public affairs network. It is a non-profit organization that carries unedited live coverage of the Pennsylvania Senate and House floor proceedings as well as Pennsylvania's history, events, industry, people and culture.

In early June, Senate Bill 1247 - known as the Cable Choice and Competition Act was created to streamline the state's existing cable franchising rules to accelerate the pace of meaningful cable television competition and choice for Pennsylvania consumers. This bill aimed at reducing the cost of cable, which had historically increased 4 times faster than the rate of the Consumer Price Index.

Today's cable customers demand and enjoy a greater choice in programming and a service that offers a value by providing the purchaser with choice, flexibility, convenience and great customer service.

There are only a few benefits to cable over satellite. Mainly that is that you won't lose your signal in heavy weather. After that Directv and Dish have either similiar or superior programming at what is usually a lower price. Of course if you have the benefit of competition between providers in your area then you can get much better deals than the rest of us.
