Satellite TV has quite a lot going for it. The biggest plus is that the sky's the limit. Cable TV is only available where lines can be run from hubs to homes, not easy in some of North Carolina's rugged terrain. You'll find most of the same channel options as cable and DSL, with hundreds available and a huge lineup of premium movie and sport selections. But satellite also has the ability to offer both east coast and west coast feeds of programs. In addition, the companies often work with their communities to bring in sporting events of local interest.
Like the equipment for cable and DSL, the dish and receiver for satellite service is either free with the package or available for a one-time fee. Internet and phone connections can be bundled into their deals. And with no underground lines to run and little other infrastructure, satellite providers can offer their services at a lower rate than the other companies.

There are only a few benefits to cable over satellite. Mainly that is that you won't lose your signal in heavy weather. After that Directv and Dish have either similiar or superior programming at what is usually a lower price. Of course if you have the benefit of competition between providers in your area then you can get much better deals than the rest of us.
