When you're looking for cost-effective phone service, the key is to bundle-up! Bundling in this context means snuggling up to some super combination of services, getting great deals by increasing features and decreasing costs.
The big bundle offered in North Carolina is the 'triple-play' that combines phone service, internet and television. Just about all the telecom providers have found some way to create this combination, either offering all the services through their own company or, in the case of the satellite services, partnering with other providers for some of the options. A survey by Consumer Reports found that bundling was particularly effective in lowering the consumer cost of premium services. By putting the phone, internet and TV premium services together, a customer could save hundreds of dollars compared to the cost of purchasing each service separately.
Most of the best bundles are used to entice new customers. But providers also know the value of keeping all customers happy. So before your new customer rate comes to an end, talk to your provider about an extension or a different bundle. Even if you're a long-time customer and you don't want to change providers, you should check your company's website regularly to see what promotions are running. You might be able to negotiate an additional feature or two, just by asking your provider to reward your loyalty.
