With cellular phones gradually passing up phone service as a main means of audio communication, it may seem that a land line phone is becoming obsolete. However, the land line is still a key communication tool for many homes or businesses, and it can offer some options that a cell phone can't. As many cell phone users will attest, a main complaint with cellular phones is dropped calls. Unlike cell phones, land line phones do not require a network signal; they are plugged right into the wall. While this does not allow for mobility like a cellular phone, it can guarantee more consistency with use and connection. For businesses, multiple land lines can be incorporated into an office, with a central line, call forwarding, and voicemail for many different employees.
Phone service companies in Maryland include AT&T and Comcast, both of whom offer multiple other services like Internet and television, with great bundled service options for the best deals.

No, they are not. If your power or cable goes out, likely the phone goes out too. Traditional phones also carry thier own power and are generally very dependable.
This is a great question and with each person the answer will change. My personal opinion is home phones are a waste of time since the only time you can answer it is when you are home. Cell phones you can use anywhere and if you have a good data plan you will not worry about minutes. The only plus I could see from a landline is using it as a number to give to people that you do not want to give your cell number out to. If this is not an issue to you then there really is no point in spending an extra $25 a month.
You will need a landline phone to work as a customer service representative at home. Most companies will require you to have this in order to apply with their company but some of them will reimburse you for the charges. You can find good deals with AT&T.
