Although the main means to connection to the web 10 years ago, dial-up Internet, has been increasingly overshadowed by new technologies like high speed Internet, it still serves a function for many in Kansas. Dial-up Internet allows both those on a budget and those in remote areas to receive Internet without the price and cable network needed for high speed Internet. Dial-up simply requires a telephone line; you just sign up, plug in, and you're connected to the world. This form of Internet connection is ideal for those with limited Internet use or those who have access to high speed Internet in other places, like work. Although it may run a bit slower than high speed Internet, dial-up also allows for DSL installation, meaning quicker speeds without tying up the phone line.

Dial-up Internet providers in Kansas include Toast.net and Basic ISP; most providers offer their monthly services for less than $10 a month, with no need for cable or satellite installation fees.
