Verizon Wireless, Sprint Nextel, AT&T and T-Mobile are the biggest cellular providers in D.C. each offering similar services. All four companies recently vowed to build the new infrastructure to transmit cellular signals in the Washington underground transportation network the Metro. It will take up to four years to complete.

When driving long distances in densely populated areasand calling somebody on your phone, your call can bounce from one cellular company to another, which is a network glitch. You often get billed for a roaming call that you never made. A number of such accidents were reported in the Washington D.C. area with US Cellular, but the company promptly gave credit for such wrong calls citing technical difficulties.

Some cellular companies, for example Verizon Wireless, offer detailed statements of calls made online, which is a great service for customers. Customers can view their calls and pay for them online in an instant, instead of waiting for paper statements to arrive in the mail. Verizon also offers wireless broadband internet service. They enable all 80 million of their subscribers to use fast internet access on the move with their notebook computers or cell phones and communicators, provided that they have the necessary equipment and are subscribed to the right service plan.
