When it comes to residential telephone services in the Green Mountain State, only one brand is trusted by majority of Vermonters- VTel.

As the Vermont's largest independent telephone company, VTel has been leading the local telecommunications industry with its innovative technology used for domestic and social purposes.

If you can't maximize your current telephone provider, switching to VTel can offer you more economical options. The company provides flexible packages for different types of users.

Housewives and home buddies can use VTel's PlainTalk@Home. The package is especially tailored for full residential service with an additional twenty hours of local calls.

For heavy users that require more than one line at home, a PlainTalk@Home would not suffice. This is where VTel draws its strength. Unlike other telephone providers, the company can provide up to four additional phones for only $4.95 each every month. This package would ideal for households that have teenagers keeping the phone line busy.

VTel is not only limited to providing better phone options, it's also a leading DSL provider in the region. Consumers who bought any of the packages mentioned have most likely tied it up with VTel DSL for faster Internet connections. That's absolutely a perfect duo!

You can go to Walmart and buy a calling card. This way you can use payphones. If you have internet you can use Skype to call people. You can also buy a "temporary" cell phone (called a Tracfone) with buy-as-you-go minutes. These can be found at CVS Pharmacies. Other than that, you'd have to go into a store (Verizon / Sprint / T-Mobile / AT&T) if you want a long term plan.

Your best bet may be a pre-paid mobile phone. Tmobile, boost mobile, and virgin mobile all provide pre-paid phones with no credit check. You simply pay for the time you use.
