When it comes to the telecommunications industry, many of the larger companies are moving in the same direction. That direction is toward the bundle.
But what exactly is a bundle? That's a relatively easy question to answer on the surface, but underneath there's a little more to it.
Basically, a bundle is any combination of high-speed internet, television and phone service in one combined offer. Many of the large telecommunications companies are starting to ‘bundle’ their services, offering lower-priced packages with each bundle.
Bundling is happening across the board in the telecommunications industry, from cable and satellite television companies to phone companies like AT&T. As these companies expand their menu of services, they begin to offer better deals by combining everything they offer.
This also benefits the companies, because you're purchasing each service from them, and not separately as has been the case in the past. Before, you weren't able to purchase phone service from your cable company, so you didn't have a choice but to separate it out. Now, both you and the cable company benefit if you decide to purchase a cable and phone, as well as internet, from them.
Now, if you break it down even further, you can start talking about different types of bundles. Satellite bundles, cable bundles, bundles that include VoIP phone service. That's where it starts to stray from the easy definition. While it all fits under the bundle umbrella, you'll have to take a look and figure out which bundle suits you best.
In some cases, the consumer can choose which services they want to bundle as well. Several companies offer better rates if you bundle just two of the three, while others only offer a three-service bundle.
While the benefits to the company are obvious, the biggest benefit of a bundle for the consumer is that it saves time. What was three monthly bills before is now consolidated into one, allowing the consumer the convenience of making only one monthly payment.
If you're looking to upgrade your phone, television or internet service anytime soon, there's a good chance you're going to run into an offer for a bundle. The promise of cheaper prices doesn't always ring true, so make sure you check the pricing before you accept. Most companies are going the way of the bundle, and if it will save you on your monthly cost, it will certainly add convenience.
