Is Dialup internet still available?

There was a time when dialup internet was simply referred to as the internet. There was nothing better. It was the end all be all of web browsing. The binging and static of a modem connecting was a familiar sound all across the country.

Enter broadband, which has replaced dialup internet as the internet. With no need for a phone line and much faster speeds, broadband was a much more reliable and much better internet option that pretty much left dialup out in the cold.

Dialup was easy to implement, because it required no infrastructure changes. It simply came through the phone line you already had. Now cable internet can boast the same thing, coming in through the cable you already have.

But dialup has not and will not die. It's still around, and companies like NetZero are using it to their advantage.

It's still a much slower version of the internet, but it is the internet. For people that can't afford the rising costs of broadband, dialup is a great replacement that is extremely inexpensive. For less than $5 per month, you can have internet in your home.

That's much more affordable than the $40 or $50 per month that you'll spend on your cable or DSL. Of course, you get what you pay for, and $5 internet will be much, much slower than a cable or DSL internet connection.

But NetZero does offer an accelerated dialup connection for less than $10 per month. Still nowhere near broadband, but faster than a regular dial up connection. If you're just looking to check your email, the accelerated dialup is a perfect option.

While it doesn't hold the status it once did, dialup is still around, and it's a great option for someone that wants to check their email or read an online newspaper. For anything more involved, like gaming or downloading music, you're going to want a broadband connection.
