How Does VoIP Compare to Regular Phone Service?

VoIP, or Voice over Internet Protocol, seems to be the wave of the future in the telephone industry. With just your broadband internet connection, you can make standard phone calls, complete with video. Picking up the phone and calling a friend or loved one (or shooing away a telemarketer…) seems to be the way of the past, but it has set the standard, and it's not going anywhere any time soon. VoIP is basically just a phone call that is transmitted over the internet rather than standard telephone switchboard network. This reduces the cost of both communication and infrastructure, because calls are routed over existing data networks.

VoIP boasts several features that make it stand out above traditional phone service. It's easier to make a secure call and to transmit multiple calls at one time with VoIP. It can be integrated with other services, such as video calls and data exchanges. Also, only an internet connection is needed and your VoIP phone line is in business.

The problem with VoIP so far is that it's not very portable. A VoIP cell phone is hard to come by, and it's also not a great option. VoIP is a great solution for keeping in touch with friends and family that don't live in the your area. But for now, that's about it.

The current trend is still the cell phone. Many people no longer pay for both a landline and a cell phone. Instead, the cell phone serves both purposes. The rise of the cell phone isn't over yet doesn't look to be slowing, especially with all-in-one devices like Apple's iPhone.

VoIP may be the wave of the future, but it has a long way to go before it become the trend of today.
